For people who are interested in beginning a career in alternative medicine, there is a growing interest in homeopathic medicine. Through its affiliate programs, the Edison Institute of Nutrition offers students the opportunity to study homeopathic medicine while earning their diploma in holistic nutrition.
What is Homeopathic Medicine?
Homeopathic medicine or homeopathy is based on the principle that the body has the capability of healing itself. Homeopathic practitioners believe that administering a small dose of the substance that makes a person ill can enhance the body’s healing process and cure the disease. The homeopath generally prescribes solutions or pills with a highly diluted portion of the active ingredient, triggering a healing response.
Homeopathic medicine has been used to treat disorders such as allergies, irritable bowel syndrome, dermatitis and rheumatoid arthritis. Homeopathic health practitioners take a holistic approach to healthcare by assessing the whole person, focusing on prevention, using natural medications and enhancing health by educating patients.
Earning a Diploma in Homeopathy
Students earning a Diploma in Holistic Nutrition through the Edison Institute of Nutrition can earn a Diploma in Homeopathy concurrently. Through an affiliation with the Canadian College of Homeopathic Medicine and the Ontario College of Homeopathic Medicine, students can take advantage of these two complementary modalities to broaden their understanding of holistic health. Edison Institute students earn their diploma and receive appropriate exemptions, credits and tuition discounts when taking the homeopathic degree program. Students enrolled in the holistic nutrition program are exempt from the nutrition courses required for the homeopathic medicine degree.
The Homeopathic Diploma Program
Students can choose a flexible homeopathic medicine degree program with options including weekend classes, evening classes and online choices. A comprehensive clinical internship is also available. The three year program includes home study to keep up with lecture material and 3 – 5 hours of case analysis for every hour of clinical observation during the second and third year.
The comprehensive program includes coursework in the principles and philosophy of homeopathy. Lectures discuss symptoms that are cured by homeopathy, and students learn case analysis and case management. They gain hands-on, practical experience during a clinical externship. The homeopathic diploma program delves into fields such as gastroenterology, urology, dermatology, cardiology and rheumatology.
